Manchester Super Giants delivered a memorable night at Emirates Old Trafford as the men’s team stormed to a dominant nine-wicket victory over Welsh Fire in the men’s match.

A scintillating batting display from Tim Seifert, Jos Buttler and Paul Walter ensured the men bounced back in style, giving the home crowd plenty to celebrate. However, earlier in the day, the women’s team lost by three wickets in a low-scoring encounter.

After Welsh Fire posted a competitive 155 for four, the Super Giants produced one of their finest batting performances of the season.

Paul Walter, in his first game of the season, scored a quickfire 37. Tim Seifert was the backbone with a superb 62* from just 36 balls, taking the attack to the opposition from the outset.

Captain Jos Buttler, later, took over in breathtaking fashion, smashing an unbeaten 51 off only 20 deliveries, showcasing his trademark power and innovation to put the result beyond doubt.

The Englishman also created history, becoming the leading run-scorer of all-time in T20 cricket.

Buttler and Seifert’s power-packed 87-run partnership ensured Manchester raced to victory with 31 balls to spare, sealing an emphatic nine-wicket victory and reigniting the team’s momentum in The Hundred 2026 men’s competition.

On the other hand, the women’s team endured a narrow three-wicket defeat. Sophie Ecclestone once again stood out with the ball with three wickets.

Although the visitors looked to be in control for much of the chase, the Super Giants refused to give in, producing a spirited late fightback with wickets in quick succession to take the contest deep. But Welsh Fire eventually held their nerve to edge over the line by three wickets.

The focus now shifts to Saturday’s trip to The Rose Bowl in Southampton, where both Manchester Super Giants teams will take on Southern Brave. The men’s side will be eager to build on a commanding home victory, while the women’s team will be determined to put on a strong performance and get back to winning ways.
