Manchester Super Giants endured a difficult day at Emirates Old Trafford as both the women’s and men’s teams fell to Trent Rockets in their respective Hundred 2026 fixtures.

The women’s side went down by 31 runs despite spirited performances from captain Meg Lanning and Sophie Ecclestone, while the men’s team suffered a six-wicket defeat after Jos Buttler and Leus du Plooy combined to post a competitive total.

The women’s team fought hard throughout the contest after Trent Rockets posted 153 for eight from their 100 balls. Sophie Ecclestone once again led the way with the ball, producing another disciplined spell and claiming two key wickets.

Chasing 154, Meg Lanning anchored the innings with a composed knock, keeping the Super Giants in the hunt despite regular wickets falling at the other end. However, the required rate continued to climb as the Rockets’ bowlers held their nerve to secure a 31-run victory.

In the men’s fixture, Jos Buttler once again led from the front with a superb half-century. The wicketkeeper-batter struck a fluent and unbeaten 55 from 37 balls, combining elegance and power to anchor the innings after an early setback. Alongside Leus du Plooy, who contributed an excellent 40 off 28 deliveries, Buttler stitched together a crucial partnership that rebuilt the innings and guided Manchester Super Giants to 137 for three from their 100 balls.

Notably, Jos Buttler is currently the leading run-scorer in The Hundred 2026 men’s competition with 224 runs in four matches.

Defending the total proved a difficult task against an aggressive Trent Rockets batting display. Finn Allen took the attack to the bowlers with a blistering 72*, while Sam Billings and Mitchell Santner provided valuable support to steer the visitors home with six wickets in hand. Gus Atkinson was the standout bowler with two wickets, but the Rockets completed the chase with 13 balls remaining.

The Super Giants now turn their attention to Sunday’s trip to The Oval, where both teams will be determined to bounce back strongly against MI London and return to winning ways.
